After looking at you wonderful pictures it makes me wonder if my cat is half turkish van but he is probably more of a moggie but has the same markings. When I brought him it was with his brother and I couldn't decide between the two of then so I took both I named then Pinky and Perky, after moving Perky went missing never to be seen again and he had the most beautiful eye's one blue and one amber, I still have Pinky and he is my little baby but we both miss Perky lots. This site has so many beautiful cats and kittens.

Greetings from America 'del Norte'! I am looking at your 'site' for the first time for a rather odd reason; I have raised cats for most of my life but had never heard of this breed: 'The Turkish Van Cat' until two evenings ago. I was taping a portion of a TV show on 'Animal Planet', called 'Animal Videos',etc. when I spotted a pair of cats playing in someone's bath tub and small pool, and realized that the cats I was looking at in that film, were exactly like a sweet little cat I found last August 2001, hunting for birds and mice and other small 'wildlife, under a rose bush beside our outdoor patio! She was quite small, had a bad 'knot' in her abdomen wnich I thought, at first, was evidence that she was 'pregnant'. The 'lump' vanished after three or four days of eating good food and having enough water to drink. I believe the 'lump' must have been poorly digesting 'awful' form her hunting? She has markings exactly like those of your 'Van Cats'! The primary color is white. The secondary color is black & grey tabby with black to the roots. She is two times as large now as she was nine months ago, and is still a rather 'small' little girl. She has one 2 cm. oval black spot on the roof of her mouth, black spots on her back haunches [upper feet]. She also has a symetrical black/tabby 'saddle' on the top of her back, on the middle to lower area, which 'runs' into her beautiful plume of a tail! She has the longest whiskers and 'eyebrows' and tufts of hair in her ears - that I have ever seen in any cat! Her eyes ARE 'amber' colored and her nose is pure pink. I have raised Siamese cats, and have one now. However - I have never seen any cat with light amber eyes - before either. All the rest of her is pure sparkling white! Her coat [fur] is very long and never tangles up. She has been an 'enigma wrapped into a mystery' for us now for a long time. I used to be a 'State of California Humane Officer' in the 70's, and because of this background, common sense, and experience with out 'Welfare' system, working in 'Foster Care' and 'Adoptions' units, also in California and also in the 70's, I was saddened to see that she very likelyhad been 'abused' before she became lost - or before she ran away? She was extremely 'jumpy' and appre- hensive and especially afraid of people! I love music ... and thinking she might be soothed by a song - while I was holding her on my lap one afternoon, about four days after finding her, I began to hum a lullaby, softly. Immediately ... she whirled around, stood up on her back legs, and ... pow - pow - pow! She very quickly and purpose fully 'boxed' both sides of my face with both of her paws and then 'flew' off of my lap, flashing me an annowed look in partimg! I was amazed! I still am! Since then - I have tried more humming - off and on - and sure, enough, NOW when I hum anything ... she immediately relaxes! She and my Siamese Cat have had a 'running argument' ever since I found 'Snowy' [now I must give her a lovlier name!] They never hurt one another - but the arguments seem to be territorial. Because of this ... they take turns being 'upstairs cat' and 'downstairs cat'. The two amaze me and their 'fussing'is becoming less and less frequent. My Siamese cat is a female, just turned nine years old, is very healthy, neutered, and greiving! In July of last year her eight year old daughter,'Princhessa', vanished without a trace while she was nappimg in the sunshine on our enclosed patio! After advertising for over a month for her, and calling every cat 'person' and organisation and 'shelter' anywhere within 45 miles of us here - she was never found, sadly! She was a beautiful Siamese cat and nothing can ever replace her. One of her favorite 'games' was to climb straight up a 6 ft. tall rattan shelf in my bedroom - where she would 'lounge' and sleep at night.upon it's top. Rani often, now, gazes to the top of this shelf with interest, still. I have placed two large polar bear 'stuffed toys' up there on Princess's bed ... and Rani looks at them rather longingly now. I believe that her 'upset' with 'Snowy' stems, to some degree, from the real grief which she still exhibits from time to time, over her daughter's disappearence? 'Her' name is 'Rani' because a 'late' business partner of mine was Narendra Singh Rathore, and second son of a former Raja of Rajashtan East India "Who was, he told me "murdered in his private train car, in 1947, because someone put poison in his wine glass!". 1947 was an agonizing time for all of India! Narendra was his parent's second child. His elder brother, Rarendra, inherited their father's 'throne'. father's palace at Jaipur. Nikki had also a younger brother and one sister, Anita]. 'Nikki' and his elder brother had worked for years to save the 'White Tiger's species. Also, his brother, Nikki told me, "Could walk up to ANY wild animal in the Jungles - unafraid - and he was never hurt by any one of them!" He also opened vacant rooms in their palace at Jaipur [Rajasthan] to wild leopards there - who wandered - ever - in and out, at their whim alone; and none was ever molested, therein! Perhaps Nikki 'found' this sweet little cat for us last year and helped it to find safety with us ? Thoughts, like hopes, are always 'free'. We all loved 'Nikki' dearly and will always miss him. Nikki named his only natural son Raj Rathore. He had also one step-son, Mark Rathore. He loved his mother, as much as his father, and named his only daughter, Ansua, after his mother. Thusly: I gave my little Siamese cat her name ... Rani in honor of Narendra Rathore, in 1993. Narendra died very suddenly, at age 53, in Oct. 1982, and left his son Raj Rathore and his beloved daughter Ansua Rathore [who was six at the time] grieving - with us all! For all of these past months, since last August, 2001, I have searched and searched for my little cat Snowy's identy in vain, until this past Tuesday evening. There was always 'something' about her, which I noticed from the very beginning, which made me sense that she was very special, for some reason, which I was not privy to! I was not at all familiar with the breed: 'Turkish Van Cat'! Because of this ... I have not been able to present her with a name which seems to match her 'specialness', and this is very rare for me! Now I shall find this to be easier! I love the name 'Liela', but - we shall see. I did not search long for her owners because she definately had been abused somehow and was out there alone and half starved - without even a collar! We live in a quiet residental area with a park across the street. I should appreciate any information which you may have about how to learn more details regarding the needs and requirements of this lovely breed of cat! And, I wish to thank you for your lovely site, as well! Rose J. Moore =(*:*)=

I have re-visited your site tonight and have enjoyed it just as much as last time. I left a message then but I believe your Guest Book "crashed". I love following the diaries of the kittens and reading about the antics of the Turks. The Bengals are gorgeous too but I have a special interest in the Turks. We are owned by a pet Turkish Van Cat called "Bendigo Ben" (Ben for short). He is 11 years old now but still behaves like a kitten, very active and playful. Best wishes Barbie

We really enjoy looking at your webpage. We adopted a 1-1/2 year old male about three years ago. The little girl in the family had identified him as a Turkish Van based on pictures in a book of cat breeds. Now Jacques Cousteau (the name we gave him when we learned of his interest in water) is 4-1/2 years old and a wonderful playmate and companion. And we're enjoying learning more about the breed from websites like yours.
